Knit your shit…for my own.
I tell you, it was weird to knit something for my own child. I’d been waiting so long to do it — I always knew what I wanted to make, from the moment I got this particular pattern book — and now I actually did it!
It’s what she’ll come home in…introducing her own little sleeping bag (and my knee):

Of course, with the weather these days, we’ll see if she will actually need to use it. I made a little hat too, so she’s all set for not-68 degree weather. Sooooo…yeah.
Now she just needs to come out! COME OUT, BABYGIRL!!!!

THAT. FACE.
These days, I usually order it online at KnitPicks.com. It’s this awesome site with its own brand of yarn…it’s fairly high quality at a great price.
When I go for more expensive and fancy yarns for gifts and things, my go-to places in Chicago are Knitting Workshop on Damen Ave. in Bucktown and Loopy Yarns on Polk St. in the South Loop. They both have great selections and helpful staff. And Nina on Division in Wicker Park is really beautiful, but their stuff is a lot more high-end than the other two.
I love yarn stores. I still hope to open one someday. We’ll seeeeeeee…
Knit your shit…my own project!
So I ordered yarn yesterday for my first project for Baby Saddle over here. Having made gifts for all of my friends’ kids these past few years, it feels strangely odd (and great!) to actually be making something for my own! I’m also kind of psyched that baby will be born in March, so I can make him/her some warm and cuddly things to wear/have right off the bat.
I can’t wait for the yarn to get here!!!!!! Progress to be posted, for sure.
So I hadn’t expected a “finished product” picture so soon, but Jill sent me a few adorable pictures of cutie-man with his little elephant. Her thank you was so heartfelt and touching, I seriously teared up upon reading it.
Friends, man. They’re awesome.
Also…LOOK AT THAT FACE!
Knit your shit…ELEPHANT!
This li’l guy is for my dear friend and old roommate, Jill, who had an adorable baby boy named Miles. So really, this is for Miles. Although I’m pretty sure Jill loves stuffed animal elephants too.
In any event, I’m not totally a fan of doing stuffed animals because they’re actually really difficult, but I’ve found with all my baby gifts that they’re often the best presents for babies born in the spring and summer. You’re not gonna make them a sweater or blanket because it’s hot out, and there’s really no way of knowing until later how big the kid will be once the weather gets cooler, so even if you size up and make something for then, you could potentially make them a sweater they’ll never wear (cuz it’ll be too small). Sooooo….this is all to say that stuffed animals just work sometimes. They’re cuddly, they’re all-weather, they’re perfect to take around with the baby. So it was my pleasure to make this for Miles.
Here’s Mr. Elephant:

I hope he loves snuggling with it!!

Dear internet, the Dude abides.
Knit your shit…finished products! Sometimes you just gotta be proud of your work. That sweater was literally and figuratively made for him!
THE DUDE, you guys, THE DUDE!!!!!!!!!!
Knit your shit…The Dude Sweater
Most of us on Tumblr know, there is a new “The Dude” and that is the little adorable offspring of SrMaryMartha and her man, Lawrence. So there was nothing I could think of that would be more appropriate than giving this little guy his very own Dude sweater (White Russian and bowling ball come separately).

OMG, next project for me. Seriously.
So…
I have absolutely nothing to say of late. Jonny made a comment yesterday about how the Saddle has been pretty barren lately.
Just trying to get a grasp on my head lately. And realize that nothing needs to be as serious as I make it. Positivity! That’s the key.
Thus, here are some positive things I’m thinking today:
- the radio was quite pleasing on my way to work this morning. I was singing along with most every song played.
- we went to Costco this weekend and I got a set of glass storage containers instead of my rubbermaid or Gladware stuff, which I really think tastes like rubber/tupperware when I heat things up in the microwave at lunch. I just ate my lunch that was stored in one of these glass thingies…DELISH! It’s the little things, people.
- Jessa was so cute this morning that I did a rarity and pulled her up on the bed to have some morning cuddles with me and Jonny. She couldn’t stop giving us kisses. It was the cutest.
- I got my hair colored last week and at first I really didn’t like it…but now I’m loooooving it.
- I decided to switch yarns for knitting projects. SMM has a really awesome something coming her way! wink wink.
That’s it for now. Just trying to keep my frame of mind in check. Because the reins are in my hands and I do have control of them. It’s up to me.
